Modern Kitchen in a 1940s House – 2018

This kitchen renovation project transformed a cramped, outdated kitchen in a 1940s home into a bright, modern space while preserving the character of the original house. The existing layout limited functionality and openness, prompting a reconfiguration that allowed the kitchen to better support contemporary living.

To achieve the expanded layout, space was carefully borrowed from an adjoining bedroom, making room for a larger kitchen and an added bathroom, all while remaining within the home’s original footprint. The reworked plan significantly improved flow and usability, with the expanded kitchen now serving as a more open and functional centerpiece of the home.

Finish selections were chosen to refresh the space without erasing its historic context. Hardwood floors were extended to integrate seamlessly with the rest of the house, reinforcing continuity and highlighting the dramatic spatial improvement achieved through thoughtful planning.
